Butterfly of Life

March 30, 2009

image

The Butterfly of Life Collection provides a symbol of hope to those whose lives are touched by any kind of cancer. The line was designed by Rita Willaert, a former jewelry sales associate at Exclusively Diamonds in Mankato, MN. Rita battled ovarian cancer for many years and devoted her life to promote cancer awareness and education. The silhouette of the butterfly inspired her, representing courage, strength, and most of all hope. Various gemstones and diamonds represent specific types of cancer, so anyone can wear the Butterfly of Life to promote cancer awareness or support a special person in his or her life. A portion of every purchase is donated to cancer research and education.

Designer Donna Silvestri collects snippets of the past and glimpses of the future. Her magpie eye draws her to all sorts of treasures: perfume jars, old strands, apothecary drawers, velveteen boxes, and buttons, lots of buttons. Her line called On U Jewelry features intricately made hand-beaded necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and anklets created with glass, vintage, and semi-precious beads that she embellishes with whatever strikes her fancy. Here, a hand-sewn combination of vintage leather flowers accented with exquisite buttons creates an absolutely stunning garden that blooms all year long.
