Paula Crevoshay

Paula Crevoshay isn’t known as the “Queen of Color” for nothing. She fearlessly combines the exotic with the completely unexpected to create pieces that are as inventive as they are breathtaking. Even Paula’s most delicate designs can carry a hidden meaning. This stunning pendant featuring a divine orchid formed with whisper-pink kunzite set against purple and pink sapphires may look delicate, but orchids themselves are tough and resilient and can live for hundreds of years. Although they’re found the world over, they remain an extremely rare and exotic find. Just like Paula herself.

Tanzanite Fascination

July 24, 2009

There’s only one place in the world to find the mesmerizing deep blue-violet colored gemstone tanzanite, featured here in this fabulous brooch by Ruth Grieco. This rare and coveted gem was discovered in the East African state of Tanzania, where in 1967 a Maasai tribesman caught the glint of an unusual translucent blue stone shimmering in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. Maasai chiefs give pieces of tanzanite to their wives upon the birth of a new baby, to symbolize a healthy and positive life for their children. It’s also given as an heirloom to celebrate this generation, since the supply of tanzanite is scarce and will likely run out by the time this generation has children of their own. Whether you wear tanzanite to celebrate the birth of a child, a new beginning in your life, or your own unique vibrancy and individuality, tanzanite’s velvety colorplay will always have a magical aura that fascinates.

Seven Ply designer Lynn Weiler takes scuffed-up boy toys and turns them into hip, retro-inspired accessories. Her handmade, one-of-a-kind skateboard jewelry breathes new life into broken skateboards and makes it easy to go green in style. “I just became a mom to a handful of a boy, Elijah Hurricane,” says Lynn. “With a name like that, he is bound to be a surfer and a skater or at least I hope. He is the reason I do what I do. I want the earth to be healthy for this generation and the next.” Special shout-out to our friends at Collector’s Weekly for sharing this cool jewelry find!

Safe Keeping

Jewelry can play a role in keeping your child safe. ID-tag necklaces and bracelets can be engraved with your address or phone number in case your child gets lost while hiking, camping, or vacationing in a new city. If your child has a medical condition such as diabetes or allergies, a medical ID bracelet can help rescuers quickly pinpoint the care your child needs. Bracelets with colorful sport bands, like this bright and bold example from Sticky J, can help children overcome their reluctance to wearing medical ID. Matching sport bands with plain tags come in adult sizes, too, so the whole family can show their love and support.

Won’t You Be My Girl?

July 9, 2009

The inspiration for Laurie Kaiser’s Sweet Pea ring came from a day spent gardening with her husband. He twisted together a ring from a young vine, slipped it on her finger, and she wore it all day. She became so enamored with this endearing ring that she created it in gorgeous gold, glistening with diamond dewdrops. “This ring is very personal to me because it came out of my husband’s sweet little gesture,” Laurie says. “This ring is my symbol of eternity, timelessness, and infinity, just like my sweet and silly little ring made from a vine.” Laurie is a lucky lady indeed—a beautiful, thoughtful ring, and a husband to match!
