My boyfriend and I decided to spend Christmas in Santa Fe a few years back, and he surprised me by popping the question in a restaurant on Christmas Eve. Just as he brought out the ring, a waitress came to our table and said, “Whoops!” and then hurried away. She came back a few minutes later with a bottle of champagne for us!
The most amazing thing happened the next morning, as we had Christmas breakfast in another restaurant across from the hotel. When we finished our meal, our waiter told us that someone else had already paid the bill and wanted to remain anonymous. Was it someone who wanted to share some holiday cheer, or someone who recognized us from the night before and wanted to give an engaged couple a surprise they’d never forget? We’ll never know!
